Introduction:

This comprehensive training program is designed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to identify, understand, and prevent work-related illnesses and diseases. In this course, we will explore legal requirements, major body systems, intervention measures, health surveillance, and risk communication strategies to create a safe and healthy working environment.

1. Introduction to Occupational Health:
• Definition of occupational health
• Importance of preventing occupational diseases
• Historical perspective and evolution of occupational health


2. Identification of Work-Related Illnesses and Diseases:
• Common occupational diseases
• Recognizing early signs and symptoms
• Reporting and documentation


3. Legal Requirements Related to Occupational Health:
• Overview of occupational health and safety laws
• Employer and employee responsibilities
• Compliance with regulations and standards


4. Major Body Systems and Their Relationship to Work Exposures:
• Respiratory system and airborne exposures
• Musculoskeletal system and ergonomic considerations
• Nervous system and chemical exposures


5. Prevention of Occupational Diseases - Intervention Measures:
• Engineering controls
• Administrative controls
• Personal protective equipment (PPE)
• Training and education


6. Health Surveillance and Monitoring:
• Regular health check-ups and screenings
• Monitoring exposure levels
• Early detection and intervention


7. Risk Communication:
• Effective communication strategies
• Transparent reporting of risks
• Building a culture of safety and health


8. Case Studies


9. Group Exercise to recap the learning points

 

Certification:

Upon completion of the course, a Certificate of Participation will be issued to the learners. 8 SDU points are awarded for WSHOs.
