Introduction:
In the construction industry, design and planning are critical and essential safety components. This is also in line with the focus and due emphasis on upstream risk control concept and requirement stipulated under the Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) Act and Code of Practice on WSH Risk Management, ISO 45001 Clause 8.1.2: Eliminating hazards and reducing Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) risks and WSH 2028 Recommendation: Design for Safety (DfS).
By addressing potential risks at the design stage, these would allow for better upstream risk control measures to be adopted during the construction phase and allow for safer manner of executing example complex and high-risk construction work processes i.e. ERSS, falsework, steel structure, façade installation throughout the construction life-cycle and post-construction maintenance phase example maintenance of roof/façade.
